THE United States is a “wrecker of human civilisation,” the state-affiliated Korea Central News Agency reported yesterday in an article detailing the destruction during the Korean war.

During the 1950-53 conflict, which split the country in two, Washington’s forces destroyed six museums, including the State Central History Museum, the article stated.

The article said that historical data was burned while 6,709 cultural relics were plundered, and US troops looted the museums.

Three tombs of Nampho City, which were described as “a treasure of the Korean nation” were destroyed, and bombs were dropped on the Ancient Tomb in Anak.

KCNA listed a number of temples that were destroyed as they were deliberately targeted by US forces, who sought to prevent the country coming under Soviet influence.

“The facts show that the US imperialists are a strangler of human civilisation,” the article concluded.

Tensions remain high between Washington and Pyongyang with the US and South Korea increasing joint military exercises in the region.

These acts, along with the mobilisation of US warships to the region, are seen as a provocation by North Korea.

The US says the excercises are necessary, citing Pyongyang’s recent ballistic missile launches and fears of an imminent nuclear test.
